But he knew better. She liked controlling people and even when she got out, she would get herself into trouble with that habit alone.
She glanced at him. “So no more drugs?”
He shook his head. “You were off it, anyway. The last two batches I gave you were just the flower extract.”
She wrinkled her nose. “I wondered why there was no buzz.”
But she didn’t seem mad or disappointed. “What about the old man?”
“Gone for good. You don’t have to worry about him.”
She sighed. “You mean I can go out and play with the others?”
He actually chuckled. “Yeah, but remember these girls bite back.”
The doctor finished with his setup and approached them with a needle and a swab. She sighed and reached her arm out. It didn’t take more than a moment and a small wince.
She put pressure on the small wound and said to Jephry, “You will visit?”
“Yes.” She would probably get bored if he didn’t and really get into trouble.

Freya chuckled as Rawiri picked her up and carried her through the door. Her dress draped over her legs and made it difficult for her to move but she didn’t want to be anywhere else.
She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’m really glad you have that strength atramento. You make me feel like I’m a small bit of fluff in your arms.”
He smiled down at her and shifted her to her feet. “I thought you would feel like Mrs. Rawiri Ngarongo.”
She kept her arms around his neck. “That too.”
She kissed him and then rested her head on his shoulder. Just savouring the moment. Rawiri smoothed a hand over her hair. “Are you tired? I thought we could take a shower and hit the sack.”
She smiled and then tilted her head up so she could look in his eyes. “I have other plans.”
He frowned and she chuckled at his confusion. She stepped back and took his hand and guided him out on the balcony.
He laughed when he saw the small table set up for an intimate dinner. Much like the one he had used to propose to her. He tugged her against him and she let him as he bent his head to kiss her.
He said a bare whisper from her lips, “You make me happy, Freya. Not just every day happy but laugh out loud happy.”
She asked, “Does that mean you aren’t going to sing for me?”
He sighed. “I’ll sing but it won’t be to hide my sadness. I’ll sing for you instead.”
She smiled and kissed him. “Good because you have a beautiful voice.”
His chest moved with his laughter but it was silent. She could get used to this. In fact, she was probably already addicted.
He ran his hands down her back then stopped. He looked up. “Your chip is gone.”
She nodded. “The healing atramento mended the break in my spine. I’m completely healed.”
His eyes shone with the wonder she had felt when Hal had told her what the healing atramento could do. He lightly brushed her hair away from her cheek. He said something but stopped. He shook his head and then bent his head to kiss her again. Dinner might be cold before they got to it.
